Columbia Technology Oil: More than 20 years of history
08/15/2016Columbia Technology, Capixaba company, started in partnership with the University of Oman, in the Middle East, and the Federal Institute of Espírito Santo (IFES), a project for development of a superbug that can increase the productivity of oil wells, especially those who rely on heavy oil.
The study is a pioneer in the country and even the world, according to the project engineer from Columbia, Tiago Coutinho Vasconcelos. Other companies and universities are world apart from trying to develop such technology, even without satisfactory results to date. The engineer states that such bacteria “break” the oil, making it lighter and easier to be removed from the well.
The federal government and Columbia will invest R $ 500,000 in the project, which is expected to last two years. They are involved in the project three teachers and ten students. The expectation of those involved is that the superbug already on the market even before the two year period of the project.
Upon completion of the project, Columbia will hold innovation and responsible for marketing and those involved in the research, participants IFES and the University of Oman will receive royalties, according to Tiago Coutinho Vasconcelos engineer.
“The development of superbugs is more a product to expand our scope of action in the world,” said the president of Columbia Technology, Marcos Pegoretti (photo).
